How does therapy with Liz work?

Starting with a new therapist can be intimidating. It's important to know that you are working with someone who feels comfortable for you, and who can help you. I provide a free 15-minute video consultation so that you can get to know me and learn about my practice, and so that I can learn more about your goals for therapy and explain how my therapy practice works. During that call we'll schedule our first session, either in person or over video. The first session will be for assessment and treatment planning – I will get to know you better and get a more in-depth sense of how I can provide you with the best therapy possible.

I use a variety of methods in my therapy, primarily evidence based therapy practices like CBT, DBT, and ACT. I also incorporate self-compassion, intuitive/mindful eating, exposure therapy, and more. You and I will work together to identify which of these methods work best for you,  and the changes that you can make to create a life that you can thrive in.

How often will I come to therapy?

While I generally start with weekly 50-minute sessions, this is flexible and can be more or less frequent based on your needs and availability. I also offer 75-minute sessions if that feels like a better option.

How long will therapy last?

That all depends. If you are looking for a more brief, solution-focused therapy to meet goals and move on with your life (which I totally get and support!), you can expect to be in therapy for a few months. This type of therapy will also require between-session practice on the skills you are learning. The more you practice new ways of doing things, the more they will stick! If you are looking for longer-term therapy, or have a few different goals you'd like to reach, that's ok too!

My mission is to provide you with the support and tools you need to feel calm, confident, and excited about your life, both present and future.

I look forward to working with you!
